our soapbox …
mermaid says doesn't like to use a few of the buzz words common to the industry, & here's why:
"natural"… although, this seems like a great selling point, all things natural aren't good for you or your skin. arsenic & poison ivy are two good examples... need we say more? and, like we mentioned before, most companies, while they do include some great ‘natural' ingredients, insist on filling up the rest of their products with junk. ‘natural' is best, but make sure to read all the ingredients!
"chemical"… sometimes companies like to give the impression that all things "chemical" are bad, forgetting that all things, naturally derived, or man-made are made up of chemicals. nothing to be afraid of, just be selective with which chemicals you put in & on your body. since we do absorb what we put on our skin, it's just as important to be careful about what we put on our bodies as it is what we put in our bodies.
"beauty"… there's another great selling point… no matter how hard one tries, beauty isn't something one can buy, so we don't sell it ~ enough said.
"fragrance"… terms such as "hypoallergenic", "noncomodogenic" & "fragrance-free" that are commonly used in the industry, aren't regulated & are essentially meaningless. in addition, 'fragrances' are considered trade secrets & are therefore not required to be revealed to the consumer. "fragrance" on an ingredient label may represent many ingredients (whether their purpose is to "fragrance" or not) sometimes hundreds & is often a way for companies to hide unattractive ingredients from the consumer.
